Deeper Prayer

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

What is the highest form of prayer we can ever pray? We get a clue from Song of songs. We observe the opening of the text being prayer. Prayer by itself is precious. When the prayer is about Him and His love, it is exceptional. Here we see her first and utmost prayer being the kiss, which shows her foremost fervent desire for His love.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Song of Songs 1:2 KJV

Let’s pause for a moment and ponder our prayer life. What is the depth and breadth of our prayer life? What significance does it has among the many aspects of our spiritual life? What is the type or content of our prayer? What is at the top of our prayer list? With that in mind, let’s look at her prayer in detail.

She doesn’t force him to do the kiss to begin with. She also doesn’t plead with him. Instead, she simply plainly makes her request known to Him. This is because of the awareness that He is the initiator and sustainer of such love relationship.

The Lord is more than eager to pour His heart upon us. It doesn’t require any labor on our part. It is His utmost desire to fellowship in love with us. We don’t need to wrestle with Him in this prayer. That is why we just request of Him plainly to kiss us. We need to understand that He has been waiting to impart His love in us all along. All the time we ignored Him and were busy in the things of this world, He was waiting for us! Now and then we called upon His name to fulfill our selfish desire. He didn’t mind hoping we would come around for Him. When we finally have a heart that hungers for His love, this is His dream come true. We just need to request and not struggle as if this love idea is originated with us. That is the beauty of deeper walk with God. If we have the heart, that is all it takes!
