Deeper Walk With God

My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work John 4:34 NAS

We do so many things to get satisfied in life.  We labor and exhaust ourselves to have meaning and purpose. We are on a constant struggle to make sense of living in a world that is full of pain and suffering. We turn to vanity to get pleasure and satisfaction.

The soul is crying to accomplish her purpose. The thing that nourishes our soul is doing the will of God. Until we get this and turn around our life to relentlessly do His will, we never get satisfied.

It is not the doing that makes the difference. It is the journey we make with God as co-worker in His kingdom. It is the fellowship and union with Christ that makes doing His will such a transforming lifestyle.

And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, Luke 10:39,40a KJV

Sometimes the very thing that distract us from our Lord Jesus Christ is a good thing by itself. Serving the Lord is noble. It is our life's purpose for which we are called. We rejoice serving the Lord who means everything to us. But at what expense?

God wants us to serve Him by drawing the power from Him. Our union with Christ is the power that needs to fuel our service. But we get caught up with the task of doing things, we forget all that. We forget the most important thing is to continue resting under His feet.

When the task at hand is disrupting our fellowship with the Lord, we need to pause and ask ourselves: are we doing the things we do for ourselves or the Lord? If it is service for the Lord - then let Him shine. Let your vision be only Him.

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part Luke 10:42a KJV

We have a tendency to rush into activities motivated by our love for the Lord.  It happened to Martha, as she got distracted from the life source Jesus Christ in her busyness. Though she has the right motive to please Him, she became the victim when she could not sustain inner peace and outward calmness by being lost in her busyness and worry (Luke 10:38-42).

Deeper walk with God is not about growing in complexity.  It is rather about having depth in simplicity – realizing and treasuring only one thing and one thing alone. And that one thing for us is to be in a seated position under the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The trick is when we attempt to walk.  We get distracted by the motions of life and get engulfed by busyness and worry.  We need to grow in this area so that we walk while being seated in His presence at the same time. No matter what the situation might be, the supremacy of Christ in our lives should not be overshadowed by our pursuit to be of service to Him.

We all have the knowledge of this secret – the one thing secret. But what distinguishes Mary from the crowed is that she made a CHOICE.  Mary had chosen and embraced the one thing.  It is no use to be aware of the secret of the one thing, and then fail to experience it first hand.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58 KJV

When we practice deeper walk with God, the focus of our lives shift from temporal to eternal. We give the highest priority to the work of the kingdom and everything else becomes a reflection of our commitment to the cause of heaven. Today, we try to see what is required of us to be effective workers in His kingdom.

First, listen to the Holy Spirit. The agenda comes from heaven and that is not apparent to the carnal mind. That is why we need to clear our mind, quiet our soul, and come to the Lord to hear Him speak.

Second, wait on the Lord. God gives us the vision for us to wait and be transformed by it ourselves first.  It is a mistake to run with the vision for we don’t have what it takes to materialize it.  We need to wait on the Lord in prayer so that Father realigns everything in heaven and earth towards the fulfillment of His plan.

Third, act in step with Holy Spirit.  We need to be carful not to move too fast or too slow, but learn to get moving in step with the Divine.  That requires us to be in tune with the Spirit.

It is only human to fail from time to time. We just need to remember that the important thing is to grow in our capacity to abound in the work of the Lord.  We do that by actively cultivating the habit of listening, waiting, and acting – in step with the Holy Spirit.

and thou shalt be a blessing:” Gen 12:2b

The greater blessing is not being blessed ourselves, but to be able to be a blessing to others. A deeper walk with God doesn’t transform us to be a larger reservoir of His blessing.  Rather, it makes us to be His conduit to transfer His blessings to those around us.

Scripture declares it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).  God blesses us with the intention that we can turn it to a greater blessing by being a blessing to others. The blessings we receive have a far greater potential to be even a greater blessings for us – if we just become the transferring agent for the Lord. That is the economics of heaven.

Our Father has blessed us with all kinds of blessings – spiritual, material, and relational. It is up to us to keep multiplying the blessings by experiencing the love of God through sharing.  Living God’s love in this manner is the only way for us to fulfill our destiny and experience the unspeakable joy of the Lord.

We all know the ministry of Christ on this earth and the impact it had on people around Him. Christ had brought blessings to the souls and bodies of the hurting people left and right. We miss the point that His ministry is meant to continue even in a greater magnitude through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. God’s infinite blessings in heaven are having hard time to find there way down here on planet earth, because we neglect playing our role of being His channel.

As we experience deeper walk with God, we see the light that the blessing lies in being His hands to touch others. Enjoying only what we have by itself becomes shallow and dull. Therefore, we experience the depth of His joy in being His instrument of blessings to bring hope and life in this dark hurting world.

We see that the Father is bestowing more and more blessings on us as we faithfully administer by passing the blessings to others.  In the process, we know Christ better and make Him known more.  A deeper walk with God releases us from the imprisonment of self-obsession and sets us free to be coworker with the Almighty. Remember that being blessed is good, but being a blessing is even better!

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him Ps. 37:7a

We have a tendency to charge ahead and plunge into action when we have something in mind.  It is like we are independent, forcefully taking care of business as soon as possible on our own as much as possible. With deeper walk with God, all that would change for the better – and we choose to wait on the Lord instead.

Growing deeper in God’s love doesn’t make us a more independent person, but a more dependent person on the Lord for everything.  The more we grow in His grace, the more we become aware of our weaknesses and limitations.  In such lifestyle, hesitation to dive into action is a mark of maturity. Each day, we shy from taking the lead and wait for Him to be in charge in everything.

Just because we can do something, it doesn’t mean we have to do it without consulting our beloved Lord.  The goal is not in accomplishing a task, but in seeing it accomplished through His grace.  It is the closeness we treasure that is priceless. We check with the Lord first and walk in step with Him afterwards. It is all about Him from the beginning, through the process, and yes to the end.

We draw satisfaction from being co-workers with God, calling Him a friend.  When we prosper in our efforts, the praise goes to Him that brings glory to the Father and a joy to our soul.

We learned much from our past when we used to bring self-inflicting pains and disappointments that result from taking charge of the matter at hand, and ignoring the Father in the process.  We realize how far He brought us from self-reliance to total dependence.  A deeper walk with God is the only way to live His abundant life to the fullest.

Waiting on the Lord need to be typified by a calming rest in the Lord.  Fretting and worrying while waiting is not actually waiting on the Lord, it is dreading. With this in mind, we take one day at a time enjoying victory by giving up control and coming under His authority in humility. Wait on the Lord – it does the soul good!

His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matt. 25:23

Today, we explore how a deeper walk with God can transform our service in His Kingdom. The more we know God, the better we become equipped to serve Him with excellence. Serving God is an honor and a blessing in the highest order.

When God is telling us to do something, we don’t take ownership of the task.  We are just told to be co-worker with Him.  We are the servants and He is the Master. He didn’t transfer the control part to us.  He needs to be in charge for us to prosper in everything we do.

So we don’t need to worry about the outcome.  It is up to Him.  It is His project.  It is His vision.  We just attend to do His will one day at a time.  The question is not about the greatness of what we are called to do, but our faithfulness to our calling no matter how small our impact seems in our eyes.

We need His grace to remember that it is by Him and through Him alone that we can apply ourselves to His causes.  The goal needs to be crystal clear in our minds that its all for His glory.  It is all about Him and not about us. We are simply thrilled for being used by the Creator of the heavens and earth.

We need to scrutinize our motives as to why we are into His ministries.  Ask the question up front: “What is in it for us”? What drives us to serve God in the first place?  What motivates us to put all we have in the work we do?  Why do we work so hard in His kingdom?

The usual suspects are: financial gain, fame, power, praise of men, search for significance, search of meaning, performance addiction, selfishness, ego drive, etc. Or is it to hear Him say: “good and faithful servant”?  Is it because we want to enter into the joy of the Lord? What picture do we have in our minds as we strive to make His dreams a reality in our lives?

Who do we want to cheer us up?  Are we ignoring heaven’s smile on us? We need to keep our eyes up and move forward with the stewardship God has instilled in our hearts with a smile on our faces and His love in our hearts.  Be encouraged in the Lord always and serve Him wholeheartedly.
